Scientific Background – Based on publicly available research literature. Intended for general information only and does not replace medical advice. Health claims without EFSA approval should be considered preliminary.

  • Origin & Formation: Shilajit is a mineral-rich resin from the Himalayas, Altai, and Caucasus – it forms over centuries through the decomposition of organic plant matter under high mountain pressure.
  • Fulvic Acid as a Carrier Molecule: Fulvic acid is a natural humic acid derivative that can transport minerals through cell membranes as a chelate molecule. Extracts with 20% fulvic acid are at the upper end of clinically used concentrations; cheap products often contain only 2–5%.
  • Testosterone (Clinical Study): A randomized, double-blind study (Pandit et al., Andrologia, 2016) showed significantly increased total and free testosterone levels in men with fertility issues after 90 days of Shilajit supplementation.
  • Mitochondrial Effect: Animal experimental and in vitro data (Bhavsar et al., J Ethnopharmacol, 2016) suggest support for mitochondrial enzyme cascades; clinical human studies are limited.
  • EFSA Status: Currently, there are no EFSA-approved health claims for Shilajit.
