• EGCG Mechanism: Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is the most abundant catechin in green tea extract. It inhibits the enzyme catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT), which breaks down noradrenaline, thereby increasing thermogenic activity in brown adipose tissue.
• Weight Management (Meta-analysis): Hursel et al. (Obesity Reviews, 2009) showed that green tea catechins combined with caffeine have a small but statistically significant effect on body weight and body fat percentage.
• Neuroprotection: EGCG activates the Nrf2 signaling pathway and protects neurons from oxidative stress (Lu et al., J Neurosci Research, 2017). Epidemiological studies from Japan associate high green tea consumption with a reduced risk of dementia.
• Standardization 40% Polyphenols: Depending on the capsule filling quantity, one capsule contains an estimated 200–300 mg of EGCG – a clinically relevant single dose.
• Safety Note: The EFSA CONTAM Panel (2018) classified very high doses (>800 mg EGCG/day) as potentially hepatotoxic. At usual supplement doses (<400 mg EGCG/day), intake is considered safe.
